A phone in the room rang, startling Mary. "That must be him," Mina said, leaning across Mary to pick up the red phone. She remained draped over Mary while she spoke. "Yes, keep him entertained for a moment. Tell him I need to change into something he'll like. Oh, and tell him I have a surprise for him. And Sin, please behave."
Hanging up the phone and lifting her body off of Mary's lap, Mina said, "Come, I need to go to our costume room. Mike has peculiar tastes, I had to have several costumes made up just for him."
Walking behind Mina as they went through the control room, Mary asked, "What do you mean by peculiar?"
"He's what you would call a furry."
"A what?"
"His fantasy is to have sex with women that are a mix between a human and an animal. Odd, but not as uncommon as you might expect."
"Odd, I think it's twisted."
"Well, you will just be there to watch. So don't worry about."
While they talked, they walked through the darkly lit red halls to another hidden room. "This is the costume room. We have everything from the normal maid and nurse outfits to the twisted S&M and furry outfits."
Looking through the racks, Mina pulled one out and said, "This should fit you, here, put it on."
Mary took the outfit and put it on, as Mina requested.
"There, now you are a red fox," Mina said. The get up was snug, with holes exposing her breasts and vagina. "Now put this outfit on over it." Again Mary did as requested. She now had a tiny miniskirt and bandeau top on over the furry outfit. "Mike will like that.
"Now, let me see, I want to be a leopard tonight," Mina said, putting her outfit on. Over the leopard costume she wore a Japanese schoolgirl outfit, complete with big white socks. "I believe we're ready, lets go introduce you to Mike."
They walked back out into the hall and down a corridor to another room. Unlike Mina's private room, which was white, this room was dark red like all the others in the bordello. In a chair situated in the corner of the room sat a fat, long-haired man with Sin on his lap. As soon as Mina and Mary walked in he got up, dropping Sin to the floor, and said, "Oh my, how delicious."
"I thought you'd like my little surprise," Mina said. Sin stood up behind him and rubbed her but.
"I'm not paying more for this," he said.
"Mike, would I do that to you?" Mina cooed. Turning to Mary, she said, "Mary, this is Mike. Mike, Mary. Curtsy Mary." Mary did as she was told. "Sin, you may leave us now."
"Yeah, I'm done with you," Mike said, not even looking at her.
She walked past him, leaned in to give Mina a kiss on the cheek, and whispered, "He smells," in her ear.
"Thank you dear," Mina said, then, turning to Mike, "Let's start with a bubble bath, so you and Mary can get to know each other."
"O.K., but I'm not paying more for that."
Mina smiled. She took Mike and Mary by the hand and led them through a doorway to a spacious bathroom.
162
"Mary, run us a bath," Mina said. Mary did as she was told.
While the bath was being run, Mina undressed Mike. Slowly she revealed his short, fat frame. He was about five foot five and at least 250 pounds. His belly hung so low it covered his genitals. His stench was impressive.
While they waited for the tub to fill, Mina played with Mike's penis, though it looked more like she was moving her hand around inside a flap of fat. She whispered in his ear, "Mary can't wait to feel that big cock of yours inside her," and other sweet nothings, that were, of course, all lies.
Once the bath was drawn, Mina brought Mike over and got him into the water. Mary stood by, almost like a robot waiting for instructions. "Mary, help me wash Mike," Mina said, springing Mary into action. "You wash Mike's big cock, so you aren't surprised how big it is when he puts it in you." Mary did as she was told.
Mike shifted between giggling and moaning for his bath. Once the stench and filth were washed from his body, Mina said, "Let's get you dried off and into bed so we can have some fun."
Breathless, Mike said, "Yeah, yeah."
The three moved to the bed. Mary and Mina got onto it and stretched out into sexy poses. "I want to have sex with the fox, I want to have sex with the fox," Mike said, pointing at Mary and using a more graphic term for intercourse.
Mary looked at Mina and rolled over on her back. She spread her legs wide, exposing her vagina.
"I do my bitches doggy style," Mike said, angrily.
Mary smiled at him and rolled onto her knees. She lifted her butt into the air and wagged it at him. Mike scrambled up onto the bed behind her and lifted his belly fat onto her back. Mina came over and guided his penis into Mary's vagina. The combination of his weight and less then impressive length made this task quite difficult.
Mike haplessly fumbled about for two or three minutes before moaning deeply and orgasming. He then shifted his bulk off of Mary, dragging his belly until it flopped off of her with a slap as it hit his own body. He lay on the bed, spent and tired.
Mary turned to look at him with shock in her eyes. She didn't speak, but it was as if she didn't understand what was happening.
"Mary, now is the time to service him," Mina said. "Like this," she shifted his belly to the side and started to lick his tiny penis and testicles. Mary joined her.
After a few moments, Mina looked at Mary and held Mike's scrotum to the side. Mary bit in the fold where his scrotum and body met.
A flood of visions passed through her before Mina pulled her head away, saying, "Only a little at a time."
By this point Mike was asleep and Mina said, "Come, lets get changed."
163
At her command, Mary followed Mina back to the dressing room.
"So, how did you like it?" Mina asked.
"I... I don't know," Mary replied, a little befuddled.
"Admit it, you loved it. The power, the control."
"Yes, I loved it," Mary said.
"He'll be back next week. You and I will meet with him again, but this time you'll control his thoughts."
"Yes, that sounds perfect."
"Until then, you'll train with me."
"Yes."
"Here, undress and throw the costume into the hamper." Mary did as she was told, but stood naked after doing so. "Put your own clothing back on." She proceeded to dress. "Go home, rest and I'll see you again soon for training."
"Yes."
Mina walked Mary to the bordello's exit, but they talked very little. Mina said goodbye with a deep kiss. She watched with a smile as her guest got into her car and drove away.
Mina walked back to her private office to find Sin sitting on the couch waiting for her.
"I see you found a new whore," Sin said angrily.
"Stop it. It isn't like that."
"Isn't like that? I watched the whole wretched thing. She had sex with that smelly, fat ogre to please you.
"Is that what you want? A subservient little dog?"
"Sin," Mina said walking over and sitting next to her on the couch. She draped one arm around her and kissed her cheek. "I promise you, it isn't what you think. I'm using her to keep my enemies close. I need to make sure they don't cause us any problems.
"Besides, you know that it's better that we should control when and how they feed. It protects us."
"Is that what you were doing?" Sin asked rhetorically. "I thought you were making out with her."
"Sin, calm down," Mina said.
"I don't know, maybe you're just using me, too," Sin said.
Mina stood up before Sin and with anger in her voice said, "That's enough. I'm not looking to replace you. I'm trying to protect all of us. You're angry now, so this is no time to discuss what's going on around you. In this state you can't possibly understand how important my actions are.
"Do you really think I wanted to sleep with that fat, tiny-dicked pig? I could have any one of the others do it. I needed to do it to protect us."
"Whatever," Sin said, as she stood up and walked out of the room. "I'm gonna make sure whale boy leaves and them I'm calling it a night."
Mina watched as Sin left the room, then switched the monitor from the brothel's entrance to Mike's room.
164
Mina watched as Sin entered the room where Mike lay asleep on the dark red bed. She knew very well that Sin was going to put on a show in an attempt to strike out at her sire. It upset Mina, but not nearly as much as Sin hoped, and not in the way she hoped.
Sin was emotional and rash, and, at times, childish. This was just one of her many outbursts. She seemed jealous of anyone that got close to Mina. Which was why Sin made several of the male customers believe they had and liked gay sex. In some ways this touched Mina, she liked it. In other ways she hated it.
In fact, Mina noted, while watching Sin have sex with Mike, that she hadn't sired another vampire since Sin because she knew it would upset her.
This, however, was different. Sin could never understand the importance of her interaction with Mary. With a sigh, Mina picked up the phone next to the couch and dialed.
"Sire," she said in Chinese.
"Yes, it's going well. I've made contact with them. The one named Mary came tonight. She was easily controlled.
"Yes. She did everything I told her without the slightest question. I'm sure I can use her to get close to the girl. From there, Sabastian and Sol.
"I think Sol will be difficult to control, but not impossible. I'm not sure about Sabastian. He is very powerful, but he has not honed his skills.
"Yes, I believe we will be able to use them to contact Thomas and Elizabeth.
"I know. Thomas is unimportant. It is Elizabeth, the child, that we must stop. For years I have watched her, I know her ways. The recent events warrant speed, but Thomas has hidden her away.
"I agree, that makes her role in the prophecy seem even more likely. She is more capable than she seems.
"Yes, I know he has awakened. I will do my best to insure that John Paul and Elizabeth do not meet.
"Yes, I know John Paul's sire is Og. He is from divine blood, ancient blood. He is the oldest of the second birthing.
"Yes, that means he is the first born son. I understand. He is in the prophecy. If he begins to preach, as he did before...
"I will not allow him to preach. If I must, I will kill him. It will not be easy, but I am of divine blood, too. And your blood is older sire. More powerful.
"Yes. Yes. I will keep you informed."
Mina hung up the phone. She looked at the screen in front of her, to see Sin performing oral sex on Mike. She thought on Sin, causing her to look at the camera. "Come to me," Mina said.
Sin reached up, touched Mike on the head and he fell back to the bed, asleep. Sin stood up and said, "Repugnant fat pig," and walked out of the room.
When she arrived at Mina's private office, the back door to Mina's private room was open. "I'm in here," Mina said from her private room.
Sin walked in to find Mina wearing only a leather choker on the bed. Both smiled, as Sin undressed and joined her sire.
165
The next day, Bill Angle went to visit his estranged wife, Mary, at the mental institution at which she was "resting."
"What are you doing here?" she asked scornfully, as he stood by the door to the ward waiting for her.
"I... I came to see you."
"Why? You never cared before."
"That's not fair. And it's not true."
"Isn't it? I meant no more to you than our furniture."
"I know you're angry, but there is nothing you or I could have done."
"We could have loved!" Mary Angle yelled, causing both the patients and attendants to turn and look.
"We did love."
"No. We never loved. I loved you, but you didn't love me. I did everything you wanted, but when we had Jane I died inside. I stopped loving.
"I didn't love you, I didn't love myself, and, worst of all, I didn't love my baby. Didn't you even notice the change? Or were you just so wrapped up in your own life that you couldn't see it?"
"I always wanted the best for you and our daughter. Is that wrong?"
"You liar!" she yelled, causing a nurse to start walking toward them. "You wanted what was best for you, not me. Not your child. Don't you see you destroyed me and our daughter? You killed her. I killed her. This whole thing is our fault."
Mary was sobbing. Her husband walked over to her and put his arm around her. She shoved him away and then punched him square in the face.
With a loud thump, Bill Angle fell to the floor. He rolled over to get up, but Mary started to kick him. She was quickly restrained by the nurse and two attendants that ran down after she landed the first blow, but not before Bill was spitting up blood and grabbing at his chest.
"Are you O.K.?" one of the orderlies asked.
"My, my heart," he sputtered.
"Get a medical doctor," the attendant yelled. Running out of from the nurse’s station came a woman, scrambling to put on a white jacket.
"What's going on?" she yelled, as she ran down the hall.
"This guy's having a heart attack."
The doctor dropped to the floor by Bill and instantly yelled down the hall that they needed an ambulance. She did what she could for him while his wife was restrained and drugged.
They took Bill to White Plains Hospital. His condition was stabilized in the emergency room and before nightfall he was in the intensive care unit.
When Sabastian walked into the living room that night, he found Susan waiting in a pretty dress. Claudia was next to her, putting a bow in her hair.
166
"That is a very pretty dress," Sabastian said to Susan. "May I ask the occasion?"
"I have to visit someone today," Susan answered.
"Who?"
"My Grandpa."
Sabastian looked over at Claudia. "She have me call cab already. We going to White Plain Hospital."
"May I go with you?" Sabastian asked.
"I want you to go," Susan answered.
"How do you know your grandfather is in this hospital?"
"I just do."
"Is he sick?"
"Yes. His heart and soul are sick."
"Soul?"
"Yeah, he thinks he killed mom. But he didn't. I need to tell him that before he dies."
"Is he going to die?"
"Yes, soon."
A honk came from the front and the three of them went out to the waiting cab. Susan sat in the back with Sabastian and Claudia sat in the front with the cabby. Susan held Sabastian's hand as they pulled away from the house.
"How do you know your grandfather is going to die?" Sabastian asked, as the cab pulled onto the Post Road.
Susan looked at him, smiled, and then looked out the front window.
They pulled into the front of the hospital and filed out. Susan marched right in, as if she had been there many times before. The front desk directed her to the intensive care unit, where she was directed to her grandfather, Bill Angle. Claudia waited outside.
His eyes were open, but he had tubes in his nose and neck so he couldn't speak. He was visibly frail. He watched as Susan and Sabastian entered the room.
"Hello grandpa," she said, walking up to him and placing her hand on his arm. His eyes went wide and his monitor indicted that his heart rate had jumped.
"I want you to know that I love you. I remember the days we played together when mommy and I stayed with you.
"I don't want you to blame yourself for what happened. For what is happening. It's not your fault. You did what you thought was right.
"This is all in his plan. You, mom, me. You know what's going to happen, don't you?" she asked.
Bill blinked his eyes in an attempt to say, "Yes. I know I'm going to die." Then started to tear.
Susan wiped away a tear and said, "It's O.K."
Feebly, Bill took a pad of paper that was on his chest and gave it to Susan, who took it and held it for him. Then he took a pen and wrote something. He dropped the pen to the floor and ripped the sheet off. He folded it to the best of his ability. He then turned his head to the floor and reached his arm down.
Susan picked up the pen, but, instead of giving it to him, she wrote on the outside of the paper. She turned it to him to see and he started to cry again. He looked past Susan at Sabastian and put his hand on his granddaughter.
"I will take good care of her," Sabastian said.
Bill blinked to thank him, just before his body tensed and his eyes went wide. His monitoring equipment was going nuts. Susan touched his hand and said, "It's O.K., you're free." His body relaxed and the monitor began a high pitch squeal. Shortly afterward, a team of doctors rushed in. Susan took Sabastian by the hand and they left the hospital with Claudia close behind.
167
Mary rose late the next night. She walked downstairs to find Sol in the living room.
Sol looked up from the chair in which he was reading as she walked in and asked, "What happened to you, you look horrible?"
"Nothing happened, but I feel awful." She flopped down on the couch.
"So the way you look and feel has nothing to do with the brothel?"
"I don't think so, not directly anyway.
"Mina and some of her coven showed me what they do. I even fed off of one of their clients. That's what they call their victims."
"Wouldn't livestock be more appropriate?" Sol asked, interrupting Mary.
"Actually, yes, it would be. They trick their customers into thinking they are having sex and then take just enough blood to survive. Kind of like blood cows."
"The victims don't notice the cuts?"
"That's the best part, they drink from their victims' genitals in such a way that the marks are, well, not noticed."
"They drink from their victims' genitals? That's strangely erotic and gross all at the same time."
"I agree."
"You did this?"
"Yeah."
"Willingly?"
"Yeah."
"What was it like?"
"Well, the guy I drank from was kind of fat, so it took a little effort to get into the right position, but it was just like drinking from anyone else. Only I had to stop well before I killed him.
"I got the same feelings that I do with a kill, just he's still alive. Mina says that next time, I'll be able to control his thoughts."
"He was fat?" Sol asked.
"Yes."
"This is none of my business, but did you, you know, sleep with him?"
"It is none of your business, but yes I did. It was part of the process. I needed to understand and feel his desires so I could use them against him the next time."
"How big was he?" Sol asked.
"You're having fun with me," Mary shot back.
"No, no. I'm interested in understanding."
"Well, he was pretty big."
"Interesting. What's it like to sleep with a fat man?"
"O.K., now your playing," Mary said, as she stood up to leave."
"No, please, you misunderstand. It just doesn't seem like you would have sex with fat people under normal circumstances."
168
"I wouldn't sleep with a fat person under normal circumstances, but this wasn't a normal situation. In fact everything since the night Thomas killed my clan has been abnormal," Mary said to Sol, visibly upset.
"Yes. It must be hard on you. We're all adjusting," Sol replied. "I'm sorry I upset you. What's Mina's establishment like?"
"It's O.K., Sol, I'm just out of sorts today.
"Mina's got the place wired with cameras. Each room, Sin, one of her children, said there were ten rooms, has multiple cameras. There's a control room where two of our kind monitor everything that goes on. Mina has her own private office where she can monitor everything, too.
"It's really quite impressive, actually. Even Tobias didn't go to the extremes that Mina has, and my sire had major control issues."
"And all of her children live at the brothel?" Sol asked.
"It seems as if they do. There are rooms in the basement where they live."
"Interesting. She has always been standoffish. My dealings with her were minimal, but Thomas always accorded her a great deal of respect. When Elizabeth took over the clan and the Tribunal, Mina reduced contact even further.
"At important meetings, she was always represented, but never present herself. I understand her concern about us being here, but her interest in us is far greater than I'd have expected."
"There's nothing to be afraid of, Sol," Mary said. "She's really quite nice and wants to help. I think you're reading into things far too much."
"Perhaps," he answered, "but it's my nature. Do you plan on going back?"
"Yes, I was going to get myself together and head over."
"Be careful, none of us really knows enough about Mina yet to trust her."
"Sol, I do know enough. I trust her. Everything will be fine."
"Just be careful. For my part, I'm going to head back to the city and see what I can find out," Sol said.
"What about Sabastian?" Mary asked.
"I was waiting for him, but it seems that he wants to spend the night with Susan. Even if he did come back, I probably couldn't persuade him to join me. Besides, I don't feel like waiting anymore."
"Are you going to see anyone in particular?"
"No, just some acquaintances."
"You're very secretive," Mary said. "And yet you question Mina."
"Too many years in the Enforcers, I guess. Regardless, I'm really just going to see what I can find out. I'm not looking for anyone or anything specific. I guess I'm just worried about my sire."
"Still loyal, how quaint," Mary mocked.
"Yes, I'm certain you know the bond that one feels with their sire. No matter what they are like, they are always a part of you."
169
On his way to New York City, Sol thought about Mary and what she said about Mina. Something worried him, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He was guarded around Mary already, but now he felt that he had to be even more protective of his thoughts.
The traffic was light, though, so he didn't have much time to dwell on that before he hit the city. Soon thereafter he was parking a few blocks north of the Church.
Stepping out of the car, he noted that there were vampires watching him. "Show yourselves," he said out loud.
Two vampires walked down the street, one on each side. They were both wearing white robes.
"Laz," he said, extending his hand to the one walking closest to him. "How are you?"
"I'm good," the man answered, giving Sol his hand. "But what brings you back to us tonight?"
"Information. I was hoping to talk some more with John Paul."
"Ah, let me escort you to Paul first. I'm sure he would like to talk to you, too."
"O.K.," Sol answered cheerily, but underneath he was concerned. The last time he spoke with Paul, he seemed oddly effected by John Paul's return. It was as though he didn't want to cede his control over the clan to his sire, who held the rightful claim to power. "Just one more thing to worry about," Sol thought, as they walked and talked about things Sol already knew.
Laz brought Sol to Paul's office and asked him to sit outside while he went to find Paul. A few minutes of boredom later, Paul came in and shook Sol's hand. "Come in, come in. Lazarus should have let you in so you would have been more comfortable. I am very sorry.
"He tells me you came to talk to John Paul. After the encounter you had last time, I'm not surprised that you are concerned about your old friend. I, as his own blood, am deeply troubled by his mental state.
"It's like this, sometimes, when an ancient comes back to us after slumbering for so long."
"Yes," said Sol. "I've heard of situations where an ancient has come back confused."
"Exactly, exactly. Very disturbing that it should happen to someone so fine as John Paul. He is the light of our faith, or at least he was.
"This episode has dimmed his brilliance. The elders and I have tried to keep him separated from the others. We fear that they may not understand the gravity of his situation. That they may follow him down a path that not even he himself would advocate, were he in full control of his faculties."
"I understand."
"We were all so excited upon his return, most especially me. I wanted so badly for him to lead us again, you understand, but in his current state. It just isn't possible."
"You're only being prudent," Sol said.
"Sol, I am so very glad that you understand," Paul said, putting a hand on Sol's shoulder. "We all hope that this will pass, that he will return to us, truly return to us. But while we wait, I fear we must keep him isolated as best we can."
"I understand."
"I am very glad, let me show you to the door."
"Thank you, John Paul, that is very kind of you. You must be busy, however, and I know my way. I can show myself out," Sol said. "I will be back soon, though, to check up on him."
"Sol, John Paul couldn't ask for a better friend. And I insist that I see you to the door, it would rude of me not to."
170
As Paul and Sol walked through the church, Sol asked, "Do you mind if I pray for John Paul for just a moment?" He made sure to ask this in front of others.
"You are a true believer and good friend, Sol. I've always felt you belonged with us, and not the Enforcers. I will pray with you," Paul said.
"We all play our part in God's plan," Sol said. He walked to the front of the Church and kneeled before the alter. He chose his thoughts wisely, so as not to upset the delicate political game Paul was playing.
In his mind he said, "God, I know I'm not your favorite child, but please grant me this request. I would like for you to heal John Paul so that I may speak to him again. So that John Paul and I can converse about the Old World and the New. So that John Paul and I can talk about the future." He repeated this several times.
After a few minutes, he stood up and said, "Thank you Paul."
Paul stood and said, "It is not a problem. You are a good friend to my sire. I look forward to seeing you again and hope that I'll have better news then."
"Better news about what?" thundered John Paul's voice from behind them. "Sol, you have returned. I'm so happy to see you. Come, come," he said, walking over to the pair.
Paul stood between them and said, "Sire, Sol is very busy. I don't believe he has the time right now to talk."
"Nonsense! Sol has plenty of time, I'm sure of it, don't you Sol?"
Looking at Paul, he played along to avoid suspicion. "I do have some pressing arrangements that I need to attend to."
"I won't hear of it," John Paul said, walking around Paul and taking Sol by the shoulder. "You and I have had so little time to talk, you’re the undead, time is of little importance."
The two made small talk as they left Paul standing alone with a worried look on his face. After they closed the door to the tower, Paul told two guards that Sol was to be brought to him when he left John Paul's company.
In the tower stairwell, John Paul said, "We can talk openly now, the little imp and his Pharisee followers can't hear us here."
"You sound disappointed by Paul," Sol said sarcastically.
"I am. What lies has he told you?"
"He says that you're insane."
"I fear that he is more concerned with protecting his role in this coven than with doing God's work."
"JP, you have to admit that the things you are saying, or at least the things you've said to me, are, well, a bit outlandish."
"Are they?"
"Yes," said Sol. "You tell me that I'm to pave the way for the chosen one, but who is the chosen one?"
"I don't know. But I feel him. I just know he is among us and his time is near."
